The "Silver Bear" For Panahi 2006-2-21 - 9:20 - Pendar
Pendar.net : After "The Golden Camera" of Cannes Film Festival for "The White Baloon", the "Golden Leopard" of Locarno Film Festival for "The Mirror", and the "Golden Lion" Of Venice Film Festival for "The Circle", now the "Silver Bear" of Berlin Film Festival" goes to Ja'far Panahi's "The Offside", which narrates teh story of girls who dress like boys in order to be let to watch the football match in the stadium. After late 'Sohrab Shahid Sales", Panahi is the second Iranian director who receives this award. Since July 1975, Berlin Festival has always had a stringent attitude toward Iranian movies, while it has always been an honor for the rest of the European community, such as Italian and French festivals to have Iranian movies on their screens.
This year, though, the Festival's headmasters have had a complete new strategy toward Iranian movies. They picked up some movies for the 56th Berlin Film Festival, in Tehran, which definitly is a new record. This year, the "Silver Bear" has gone to two movies: To a Muslim-Iranian director (Panahi) and a Danish film maker. Though, according to the movie's scenarist, the award has only gone to "The Offside".
Berlin 2006 will surely be a new turning point for Iran cinema. It is hoped that it can reduce the world negative look toward Iran, which is necessary for the country's diplomacy.
