TEHRAN (IAO) -- The professional film-goers of four decades ago remember Ahmad Jorghanian. He has bought all of the top films of the cinema history found in Iran.
Now, he is one of the greatest film archivists in Iran. He has every thing from "Lor Girl" to "Gone with the Wind". Jorghanian is going to screen best films of cinema history in Sepideh Cinema. He is going to establish a film center in the same cinema.
He is friend and classmate of Behrouz Gharibpour. You can read our short interview with Jorghanian:
- Where are you from? Tell more about yourself.
- I am Ahmad Jorghanian, I was born in Behshahr, 1327. I studied theater in Fine Arts Faculty. From childhood, I loved film and cinema. My interest in cinema began with the first film I watched "Marjan", by Shahla Riahi. Since I watched this Iranian film, cinema was turned into every thing in my life.
Then I was attracted by cinema photos. There was a photo film peddler in Behshahr and I bought some photos. It was the beginning for me to get a film archivist.
I had always gone to the cinema and watched all films. I never forgot the films. My parents never went to cinema. I was punished for going to cinema. After I entered the university, another world opened for me.
I was attracted by international film associations; I showed films of cinema history to the students.
Then I rent Boulevard Cinema and showed films for the students and warmly welcomed. I studied on the films. I established a film association and showed films every day. I expanded my career to faculties of other cities of Iran and made them show films to the students.
I bought every film, either old or new. Because good films of cinema history was valuable to me. I collected a good archive of films in a terrible condition. I have collected whatever is related to cinema; poster, photo and film.
I can show it to those who are interested in cinema. I have established some film centers and I rent to the Museum of Contemporary Arts, television and every center needs.
- Where do you work?
- I cooperate with all cultural centers.
- Have you ever made films?
- I did not have time. I always wished to establish a center and screen films for those who are interested in cinema.
- What are your plans in Sepideh Cinema?
- Art Bureau proposed me to establish a film center in Sepideh Cinema. I am going to start from Ordibehesht. We would screen the best films of cinema history in hall (no. 2) of Sepideh Cinema. I have every genre of cinema.
